The Ansari companion who was in charge of the Prophet's ﷺ sacrificial camels narrated that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched him, he said, "I returned and asked, 'Yes, Messenger of Allah, what do you instruct me to do with any of them that becomes injured along the way?'"He said, "Slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood and place it on its side or its flank, and neither you nor any of your companions should eat from it."
قال حدثنا أبو النضر قال حدثنا أبو معاوية يعني شيبان عن ليث
حدثني الأنصاري صاحب بدن النبي ﷺ أن رسول الله ﷺ لما بعثه قال رجعت فقلت نعم يا رسول الله ما تأمرني بما عطب منها قال انحرها ثم اصبغ نعلها في دمها ثم ضعها على صفحتها أو على جنبها ولا تأكل منها أنت ولا أحد من أهل رفقتك
Its isnad is hasan because of Shahr bin Hawshab, and the hadith was narrated by Muslim 2/962, no. 1335, Abu Dawud 2/148, no. 1762, and Tirmidhi 3/253, no. 910, who said, hasan sahih, and Ibn Majah 2/1036, no. 3105, and Darimi 2/90, no. 1909, all of them in the chapter on Hajj, on the sacrificial animal when it is injured.
