Someone who was present with the Prophet ﷺ told me that he ordered a man to be stoned between Mecca and Medina. When the stones struck him, he fled. News of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, "Why did you not let him be?"
قال حدثنا عبد الرازق قال أخبرنا إسرائيل عن سماك
حدثني من شهد النبي ﷺ وأمر برجم رجل بين مكة والمدينة فلما أصابته الحجارة فر فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ قال فهلا تركتموه
