The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Bakr to lead an expedition against the tribe of Fazara, and I went out with him. When we drew near the water source, Abu Bakr halted us for a rest, and after we had prayed the dawn prayer, he ordered us to launch the raid. We descended upon the water, and Abu Bakr killed those he killed while we were with him.Salama said, I saw a group of people fleeing, and among them were the women and children. I feared they would reach the mountain before me, so I overtook them and shot an arrow that landed between them and the mountain. When they saw the arrow, they stopped. Among them was a woman of Fazara wearing a worn leather garment, and with her was a daughter who was among the most beautiful of the Arabs. I drove them along to Abu Bakr, and Abu Bakr awarded her daughter to me as a special share of the spoils. I did not so much as lift a garment from her until I returned to Medina. She spent a night with me, and still I did not lift a garment from her, until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me in the market and said, "Salama, give me the woman."I said, "Messenger of Allah, she has captivated me, and I have not lifted a garment from her."He fell silent. The next day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me again in the market, and I still had not lifted a garment from her. He said, "Salama, give me the woman, may Allah bless your father."I said, "She is yours, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then sent her to the people of Mecca, and through her he ransomed Muslim captives who were held in the hands of the polytheists.
قال حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم قال حدثنا عكرمة قال حدثنا
بعث رسول الله ﷺ أبا بكر رضي الله عنه إلى فزارة وخرجت معه حتى إذا دنونا من الماء عرس أبو بكر حتى إذا صلينا الصبح أمرنا فشننا الغارة فوردنا الماء فقتل أبو بكر من قتل ونحن معه قال سلمة فرأيت عنقا من الناس فيهم الذراري فخشيت أن يسبقوني إلى الجبل فأدركتهم فرميت بسهم بينهم وبين الجبل فلما رأوا السهم قاموا فإذا امرأة من فزارة عليها قشع من أدم معها ابنة من أحسن العرب فجئت أسوقهن إلى أبي بكر فنفلني أبو بكر ابنتها فلم أكشف لها ثوبا حتى قدمت المدينة ثم باتت عندي فلم أكشف لها ثوبا حتى لقيني رسول الله ﷺ في السوق فقال يا سلمة هب لي المرأة قال يا رسول الله لقد أعجبتني وما كشفت لها ثوبا قال فسكت حتى إذا كان الغد لقيني رسول الله ﷺ في السوق ولم أكشف لها ثوبا فقال يا سلمة هب لي المرأة لله أبوك قال قلت هي لك يا رسول الله قال فبعث بها رسول الله ﷺ إلى أهل مكة ففدى بها أسراء من المسلمين كانوا في أيدي المشركين
