Amir was a man known for his poetry, so he dismounted and began chanting verses to drive the camels along. He said,"O Allah, were it not for You we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed. So forgive, may we be a ransom for You, what we have committed, and make our feet firm if we meet the enemy, and send down tranquility upon us. Indeed, when we are called we come, and they have relied on shouting against us."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who is this driver of the camels?"They replied, "Ibn al-Akwa."He said, "May Allah have mercy on him."A man said, "He has earned it, Messenger of Allah. If only you had let us enjoy his company longer."Then he was struck down. He went to strike a Jewish man, but the edge of his own sword rebounded and struck the front of his knee. The people said, "His deeds have been rendered worthless. He killed himself."So I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after he had arrived in Medina, and he was in the mosque. I said, "Messenger of Allah, they claim that Amir's deeds have been rendered worthless."He asked, "Who says this?"I said, "Some men from the Ansar, among them so-and-so and so-and-so."He said, "Whoever said that has lied. He has two rewards," and he held up two fingers, "and he was indeed a striver, a fighter for Allah's cause. Few Arabs have walked the earth like him." He meant to encourage you regarding him.

كان عامر رجلا شاعرا فنزل يحدو قال ويقول اللهم لولا أنت ما اهتدينا ولا تصدقنا ولا صلينا فاغفر فدى لك ما أتينا وثبت الأقدام إن لاقينا وألقين سكينة علينا إنا إذا صيح بنا أتينا وبالصياح عولوا علينا فقال رسول الله ﷺ من هذا الحادي قالوا ابن الأكوع قال يرحمه الله قال فقال رجل وجبت يا رسول الله لولا أمتعتنا به قال فأصيب ذهب يضرب رجلا يهوديا فأصاب ذباب السيف عين ركبته فقال الناس حبط عمله قتل نفسه قال فجئت إلى رسول الله ﷺ بعد أن قدم المدينة وهو في المسجد فقلت يا رسول الله يزعمون أن عامرا حبط عمله قال ومن يقوله قال قلت رجال من الأنصار منهم فلان وفلان قال كذب من قاله إن له لأجرين بإصبعيه وإنه لجاهد مجاهد وقل عربي ما مشى بها يريدك عليه
