Bara said, "Messenger of Allah, we hastened to slaughter a sheep for its meat."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Was it before the prayer?"I said, "Yes."He replied, "That is just a sheep slaughtered for meat."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, we have a young goat that is dearer to me than a mature one."He answered, "It will suffice for you, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."
قال حدثنا حجاج وحجين قالا حدثنا إسرائيل عن أبي إسحاق عن البراء
يا رسول الله إنا عجلنا شاة لحم لنا قال رسول الله ﷺ أقبل الصلاة قلت نعم قال تلك شاة لحم قال يا رسول الله إن عندنا عناقا جذعة هي أحب إلي من مسنة قال تجزئ عنه ولا تجزئ عن أحد بعده
Its isnad is sahih. Hujayn is Ibn Muthanna, the qadi and jurist. Abu Ishaq is Subayi, Amr bin Abdullah Hamdani. Bara is Ibn Azib, the well known companion. This hadith has already appeared with many different wordings. See 15774 and its cross-references. It is found in all the Sahih collections.
