My father said, "My son, memorize this hadith, for it is among the treasures of hadith."When we returned to Madinah, we asked about him and found him still alive, an old blind man. We asked him about the hadith and he said, "Yes. I lost my sight during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I said, 'Messenger of Allah, I have lost my sight and cannot pray behind you. If only you would designate a place in my house as a prayer spot, so that I could pray there and take it as my place of worship.' He said, 'Yes. I will come to you tomorrow.'The next morning, after he had prayed, he turned toward him and rose and came to him. He said, 'Itban, where would you like me to designate a place for you?' I described a spot to him, and he designated it as a prayer place and prayed there. Then he stayed, or sat, and word reached the Ansar around us, and they came until the house was filled with people. They began to speak about the hypocrites and the harm and evil they were suffering from them, until they directed their complaint toward one of them named Malik bin Dukhshum. They said, 'Look at his condition, look at his behavior,' while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent. When they had said much, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah?'When this was repeated a third time, they said, 'He does say it.'He said, 'By the One who sent me with the truth, if he says it sincerely from his heart, the Fire will never consume him.'"They said, "Nothing ever delighted them more than what he said."
