Abu Talha reported,

Whenever the Prophet ﷺ fought a people and defeated them, he would remain at the battleground for three days. On the day of Badr, he ordered that the chiefs of Quraysh be cast into a foul, stinking well among the wells of Badr.Then he set out toward them, and we set out with him. He called out, "Abu Jahl bin Hisham, Utba bin Rabia, Shayba bin Rabia, Walid bin Utba, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true."Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to bodies that have no souls in them?"He replied, "By the One who sent me with the truth, you do not hear what I say any better than they do."Qatada said, Allah revived them so they could hear his words, as a rebuke, a humiliation, and a debasement. He said at the beginning of the hadith, When he had finished with the people of Badr, he remained at the battleground for three days.

حدثنا عبد الوهاب بن عطاء قال أخبرنا سعيد عن قتادة عن أنس بن مالك

عن أبي طلحة

أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا قاتل قوما فهزمهم أقام بالعرصة ثلاثا وإنه لما كان يوم بدر أمر بصناديد قريش فألقوا في قليب من قلب بدر خبيث منتن قال ثم راح إليهم ورحنا معه ثم قال يا أبا جهل بن هشام ويا عتبة بن ربيعة ويا شيبة بن ربيعة ويا وليد بن عتبة هل وجدتم ما وعدكم ربكم حقا فإني قد وجدت ما وعدني ربي حقا قال فقال عمر يا رسول الله أتكلم أجسادا لا أرواح فيها قال والذي بعثني بالحق ما أنتم بأسمع لما أقول منهم قال قتادة بعثهم الله عز وجل ليسمعوا كلامه توبيخا وصغارا وتقمئة قال في أول الحديث لما فرغ من أهل بدر أقام بالعرصة ثلاثا
