Abbas bin Mirdas reported,

It was narrated to him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed earnestly on the evening of Arafah for his community, asking for forgiveness and mercy. He multiplied his supplications, and Allah عز وجل answered him, saying, "I have done so, and I have forgiven your community, except for those who have wronged one another."He said, "My Lord, You are able to forgive the wrongdoer and reward the wronged with something better than what was taken from him."That evening, however, nothing more came of this. When the next morning came, he supplicated again at Muzdalifa, repeating his prayer for his community. Soon the Prophet ﷺ smiled, and one of his companions asked, "Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, you have smiled at an hour when you do not usually smile. What has made you smile? May Allah keep you smiling."He answered, "I smiled at the enemy of Allah, Iblis. When he learned that Allah عز وجل had answered my prayer for my community and had forgiven the wrongdoer, he fell to crying out in ruin and woe and pouring dust upon his head. His distress made me smile."
