He was a participant in Badr and was their freed client. Abu Usayd said, "While I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man from the Ansar came to him and asked, 'Messenger of Allah, is there anything left of dutifulness toward my parents that I can show them after their death?'He replied, 'Yes, four things. Praying for them, seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their pledges, honoring their friends, and maintaining ties of kinship that you have only through them. These are what remain of your dutifulness toward them after their death.'"
قال حدثنا يونس بن محمد قال حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن الغسيل قال حدثني أسيد بن علي عن أبيه علي بن عبيد
وكان بدريا وكان مولاهم قال قال أبو أسيد بينما أنا جالس عند رسول الله ﷺ إذ جاءه رجل من الأنصار فقال يا رسول الله هل بقي علي من بر أبوي شيء بعد موتهما أبرهما به قال نعم خصال أربعة الصلاة عليهما والاستغفار لهما وإنفاذ عهدهما وإكرام صديقهما وصلة الرحم التي لا رحم لك إلا من قبلهما فهو الذي بقي عليك من برهما بعد موتهما
