He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about fasting while traveling, and he replied, "If you wish, fast, and if you wish, break your fast."
قال حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن قتادة عن سليمان بن يسار
أنه سأل رسول الله ﷺ عن الصوم في السفر فقال إن شئت صمت وإن شئت أفطرت
Its isnad is sahih, and its narrators are well-known imams. Bukhari related a similar hadith in 4/179, no. 1943, Fath, as did Muslim in 1/789, no. 1121, Abu Dawud in 2/316, no. 2402, and Tirmidhi in 3/82, no. 711, where he said, hasan sahih, and Ibn Majah in 1/531, no. 1662, all of them from Ayesha, in the chapter on fasting, section on fasting while traveling.
