Wathila bin Asqa reported,

I was once with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man came to him and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offense that requires one of the prescribed punishments of Allah . Carry out the punishment on me."The Prophet ﷺ turned away from him.The man came to him a second time and repeated his request, but the Prophet ﷺ turned away from him again. He said it a third time, and again the Prophet ﷺ turned away from him.Then the call to prayer was made, and after the Prophet ﷺ had finished the prayer, the man came to him a fourth time and said, "I have committed an offense that requires one of the prescribed punishments of Allah . Carry out the punishment of Allah on me."The Prophet ﷺ called him over and asked, "Did you not perform the ablution well, then attend the prayer with us just now?"The man replied, "Yes, I did."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then go, for that is your expiation."

قال حدثنا أبو النضر قال حدثنا شيبان عن ليث عن أبي بردة بن أبي موسى عن أبي مليح بن أسامة

عن واثلة بن الأسقع قال

شهدت رسول الله ﷺ ذات يوم وأتاه رجل فقال يا رسول الله إني أصبت حدا من حدود الله عز وجل فأقم في حد الله فأعرض ثم أتاه الثانية فأعرض عنه ثم قالها الثالثة فأعرض عنه ثم أقيمت الصلاة فلما قضى الصلاة أتاه الرابعة فقال إني أصبت حدا من حدود الله عز وجل فأقم في حد الله عز وجل قال فدعاه فقال ألم تحسن الطهور أو الوضوء ثم شهدت الصلاة معنا آنفا قال بلى قال اذهب فهي كفارتك
