We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day when a man came carrying a tray of dates. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What is this? Is it charity or a gift?"The man replied, "Charity."So he offered it to the people. Hasan, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, was crawling about in the dust before him, and the child took a date and put it in his mouth. The Prophet ﷺ put his finger into the child's mouth, removed the date, and threw it aside, then said, "Charity is not lawful for us, the family of Muhammad."I said to Maruf, "Was Abu Umayr your grandfather?"He replied, "My father's grandfather."
Its chain is daif due to the obscurity of Hafsa bin Talq, or Taliq. As for Maruf bin Wasil, mentioned here as Maruf, and likewise in Taajil, the Saadi, Nasai declared him trustworthy, Ahmad praised him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. The hadith has already appeared at 15648.
