Umar bin Khattab reported,

On the day of Jabiyah, while addressing the people, Umar said, "Allah has made me the trustee and distributor of this wealth." Then he said, "Rather, it is Allah who distributes it, and I shall begin with the family of the Prophet ﷺ, then with the noblest among them."So he allotted ten thousand to each of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, except Juwayriyah, Safiyyah, and Maymunah.Ayesha said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to treat us equally," so Umar treated them equally as well.Then he said, "I shall begin with my companions, the early Emigrants, for we were driven out of our homes wrongfully and unjustly, then with the noblest of them."So he allotted five thousand to those of them who had witnessed Badr, four thousand to the Helpers who had witnessed Badr, and three thousand to those who had witnessed Uhud.He said, "Whoever was swift in making the migration, his stipend shall be swift to him, and whoever was slow in making the migration, his stipend shall be slow to him. So let no man blame anyone but the resting-place of his own mount.""And I offer you my reasoning regarding Khalid bin Walid. I had ordered him to reserve this wealth for the weaker among the Emigrants, but he gave it to men of might, men of nobility, and men of eloquence. So I removed him and appointed Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah in his place."Abu Amr bin Hafs bin Mughira said, "By Allah, you have offered no valid excuse, Umar bin Khattab. You have removed an officer whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had appointed, sheathed a sword which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had drawn, and lowered a banner which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had raised. You have severed kinship and envied your cousin."Umar bin Khattab replied, "You are close in kinship, young in age, and angered on behalf of your cousin."

عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله تعالى عنه يقول

في يوم الجابية وهو يخطب الناس إن الله عز وجل جعلني خازنا لهذا المال وقاسمه له ثم قال بل الله يقسمه وأنا بادئ بأهل النبي ﷺ ثم أشرفهم ففرض لأزواج النبي ﷺ عشرة آلاف إلا جويرية وصفية وميمونة فقالت عائشة إن رسول الله ﷺ كان يعدل بيننا فعدل بينهن عمر ثم قال إني بادئ بأصحابي المهاجرين الأولين فإنا أخرجنا من ديارنا ظلما وعدوانا ثم أشرفهم ففرض لأصحاب بدر منهم خمسة آلاف ولمن كان شهد بدرا من الأنصار أربعة آلاف ولمن شهد أحدا ثلاثة آلاف قال ومن أسرع في الهجرة أسرع به العطاء ومن أبطأ في الهجرة أبطأ به العطاء فلا يلومن رجل إلا مناخ راحلته وإني أعتذر إليكم من خالد بن الوليد إني أمرته أن يحبس هذا المال على ضعفة المهاجرين فأعطى ذا البأس وذا الشرف وذا اللسانة فنزعته وأمرت أبا عبيدة بن الجراح فقال أبو عمرو بن حفص بن المغيرة والله ما أعذرت يا عمر بن الخطاب لقد نزعت عاملا استعمله رسول الله ﷺ وغمدت سيفا سله رسول الله ﷺ ووضعت لواء نصبه رسول الله ﷺ ولقد قطعت الرحم وحسدت ابن العم فقال عمر بن الخطاب إنك قريب القرابة حديث السن مغضب من ابن عمك
