The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the people to break their fast during the year of the conquest, saying, "Strengthen yourselves for your enemy." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself was fasting.Abu Bakr said, "The one who narrated this to me said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Arj pouring water over his head from thirst or from the heat. Then it was said to him, "Messenger of Allah, a group of people fasted when you fasted." When he reached al-Kadid, he called for a cup and drank, and the people broke their fast.'"
حدثنا إسحاق بن عيسى قال أخبرني مالك عن سمي عن أبي بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام
أن رسول الله ﷺ أمر الناس بالفطر عام الفتح وقال تقووا لعدوكم وصام رسول الله ﷺ قال أبو بكر قال الذي حدثني لقد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ بالعرج يصب على رأسه الماء من العطش أو من الحر ثم قيل يا رسول الله إن طائفة من الناس قد صاموا حين صمت فلما كان بالكديد دعا بقدح فشرب فأفطر الناس
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Ishaq bin Isa is al-Tabbaa, trustworthy, and his hadith appears in Muslim. Malik is the Imam.
