I entered the mosque of Kufa when its mosque had just been built. It was in the date-sellers' quarter at that time, and its walls were made of soft earth. There I found a man speaking to the people. He said, "Word reached me of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ pilgrimage, the Farewell Pilgrimage. So I prepared a riding camel from among my camels and set out, until I sat waiting for him on the road to Arafah," or he said, "I stood waiting for him on the road to Arafah."He continued, "Then a group of riders came, and I recognized the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among them by his description. A man in front of him said, 'Clear the road for the riders.'The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Woe to him! Let him be, what does he want?'So I drew near to him until the heads of our two she-camels were level. I said, 'Messenger of Allah, guide me to a deed that will admit me into Paradise and save me from the Fire.'He said, 'Excellent, excellent! Though you have been brief in your speech, you have asked a profound question. Pay attention. Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish the prayer, pay the zakat, perform the pilgrimage to the House, and fast Ramadan. Now clear the road for the riders.'"
