I heard my father, and I asked him, so he said, "Our dye during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was wars and saffron."
حدثنا بكر بن عيسى أبو بشر البصري الراسبي قال حدثنا أبو عوانة قال حدثنا
سمعت أبي وسألته فقال كان خضابنا مع رسول الله ﷺ الورس والزعفران
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bakr bin Isa Rasibi is considered trustworthy by everyone, and Abu Awana is Waddah Yashkuri, the trustworthy hafiz. Haythami also graded the hadith sahih, 5/159, and attributed it to Ahmad and Bazzar.
