I heard Qays bin Abayah Qaysi narrating from a freed slave of Saad bin Abu Waqqas, from a son of Saad, that he was praying and said in his supplication, "Allah, I ask You for Paradise, and I ask You for its delights and splendor, and for such-and-such, and such-and-such, and such-and-such, and such-and-such, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire, from its chains and shackles, and from such-and-such, and such-and-such."Saad remained silent during his prayer. When he finished praying, Saad said to him, "You sought refuge from a great evil and asked for a great" — or he said "lengthy" (Shuba was uncertain) — "blessing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There will come a people who transgress in supplication,' and he recited, 'Call upon your Lord humbly and in secret. Indeed, He does not love the transgressors' [Araf 7:55]."Shuba said, "I do not know whether the words 'Call upon your Lord humbly and in secret' are from Saad's statement or from the words of the Prophet ﷺ."Saad said to him, "Say, 'Allah, I ask You for Paradise and whatever brings me closer to it of word or deed, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and whatever brings me closer to it of word or deed.'"
حدثنا أبو النضر حدثنا شعبة قال زياد بن مخراق أخبرني قال سمعت قيس بن عباية يحدث عن مولى لسعد ح قال أبي و حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة
سمعت قيس بن عباية القيسي يحدث عن مولى لسعد بن أبي وقاص عن ابن لسعد أنه كان يصلي فكان يقول في دعائه اللهم إني أسألك الجنة وأسألك من نعيمها وبهجتها ومن كذا ومن كذا ومن كذا ومن كذا وأعوذ بك من النار وسلاسلها وأغلالها ومن كذا ومن كذا قال فسكت عنه سعد فلما صلى قال له سعد تعوذت من شر عظيم وسألت نعيما عظيما أو قال طويلا شعبة شك قال رسول الله ﷺ إنه سيكون قوم يعتدون في الدعاء وقرأ {ادعوا ربكم تضرعا وخفية إنه لا يحب المعتدين} قال شعبة لا أدري قوله {ادعوا ربكم تضرعا وخفية} هذا من قول سعد أو قول النبي ﷺ وقال له سعد قل اللهم أسألك الجنة وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل وأعوذ بك من النار وما قرب إليها من قول أو عمل
