The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade haql.I asked, "What is haql?"He replied, "Renting land for a third or a quarter of its produce."When Ibrahim heard this, he disapproved of leasing land for a third or a quarter of its produce, but he saw no harm in renting empty land for a fixed sum of dirhams.
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا شعبة قال الحكم أخبرني عن مجاهد
نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن الحقل قال قلت وما الحقل قال الثلث والربع فلما سمع ذلك إبراهيم كره الثلث والربع ولم ير بأسا بالأرض البيضاء يأخذها بالدراهم
Its isnad is sahih, and it is found in Muslim 63/1181, no. 1548, Abu Dawud 3/260, no. 3398, Nasai 7/38, no. 3882, and Ibn Majah 2/822, no. 2460. It has already appeared with the wording, "He forbade muhaqalah," 14294.
