I said, "Messenger of Allah, we will meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives with us."He said, "Whatever causes the blood to flow, and over which the name of Allah has been mentioned, eat from it, except for the tooth and the nail. I will tell you why. As for the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ obtained some spoils, and a camel from among them ran away. The men chased after it but could not catch it, so a man shot it with an arrow and brought it down. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "These camels," or he said, "These animals, have wild instincts like those of wild beasts. So whichever of them gets away from you, do with it as this man did."

قلت يا رسول الله إنا لاقو العدو غدا وليس معنا مدى قال ما أنهر الدم وذكر عليه اسم الله فكل ليس السن والظفر وسأحدثك أما السن فعظم وأما الظفر فمدى الحبشة قال وأصاب رسول الله ﷺ نهبا فند منها بعير فسعوا له فلم يستطيعوا فرماه رجل بسهم فحبسه فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن لهذه الإبل أو قال لهذه النعم أوابد كأوابد الوحش فما غلبكم فاصنعوا به هكذا
[Shakir: 15749] Its chain of transmission is sahih. Saeed bin Amir is Dubai, and Saeed bin Masruq is the father of Sufyan, and Ubayah bin Rafi is the son of Rafi bin Khadij, and he is trustworthy, and his hadith is found in the collections of all the major compilers, and they have praised him. The hadith was narrated by Bukhari 5/131, no. 2488, in the Book of Partnership, chapter on the division of spoils, and Muslim 3/1558, no. 1968, in the Book of Sacrifices, chapter on the permissibility of slaughtering with anything that draws blood, and Abu Dawud 3/102, no. 2821, and Tirmidhi in the Book of Hunting, no. 1492, 4/82, chapter on what has been said about the camel and the cow, and Nasai 7/191, no. 4297, and Ibn Majah 2/1061, no. 3178, in the Book of Slaughtered Animals, chapter on what may be used for slaughtering.[Shakir: 15750] Its chain of transmission is sahih.
