He used to order the killing of all snakes. Abu Lubabah asked his permission to pass through a small door of theirs into the mosque, and he saw them killing a snake. Abu Lubabah said to them, "Has it not reached you that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade killing the snakes that dwell in houses and homes, and ordered the killing of the snake with two stripes on its back and the short-tailed one?"
حدثنا محمد حدثنا شعبة قال عن عبد رب عن نافع
أنه كان يأمر بقتل الحيات كلهن فاستأذنه أبو لبابة أن يدخل من خوخة لهم إلى المسجد فرآهم يقتلون حية فقال لهم أبو لبابة أما بلغكم أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن قتل أولات البيوت والدور وأمر بقتل ذي الطفيتين والأبتر
Its isnad is sahih. Muhammad is Ibn Ubayd Tanafisi, as will be made explicit in the second hadith. Shubah is Ibn Hajjaj, the imam. And "Abd Rabb" should correctly be "Abd Rabbih," referring to Abd Rabbih bin Saeed Ansari, who is a well-known trustworthy narrator mentioned previously. The hadith has already appeared at 15689.
