A man slapped a slave-girl belonging to the household of Suwayd bin Muqarin, so Suwayd said to him, "Do you not know that the face is sacred? I remember myself as the seventh of seven brothers, and we had only one servant between us. One of us slapped her, and the Prophet ﷺ ordered us to set her free."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن محمد بن المنكدر قال سمعت أبا شعبة يحدث
أن رجلا لطم جارية لآل سويد بن مقرن فقال له سويد أما علمت أن الصورة محرمة لقد رأيتني سابع سبعة مع إخوتي وما لنا إلا خادم واحد فلطمه أحدنا فأمرنا النبي ﷺ أن نعتقه
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Shuaybah is the freedman of Suwayd bin Muqarrin. Ibn Hibban graded him thiqah, and Muslim narrated from him in his Sahih, as did Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad. The hadith is found in Muslim, 3/1279, no. 1658, in the book of Vows, on the treatment of slaves, where he named him Shuaybah al-Iraqi. It is also found in Abu Dawud, 4/342, no. 5167, in the book of Manners, on the rights of the slave.
