I am the first among the Arabs to shoot an arrow in the cause of Allah. We used to go out on military campaigns with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having nothing to eat but the leaves of the hubla tree and these acacia trees, until one of us would relieve himself like a sheep, his droppings unmixed. And now Banu Asad come to instruct me in religion. If that were the case, I would indeed have failed and my deeds would be lost.
Its isnad is sahih, and it is the longer version of 1598.Samur, with damma on the meem, is a type of talh tree, the singular of which is samura. "Ma lahu khalt," with kasra on the kha and sukun on the lam, meaning, as stated in Nihaya, that their stools do not mix with one another, because of the dryness and hardness of their food, for they used to eat barley bread and tree leaves out of their poverty and need.In H, "atayna" appears instead of "raaytana," and this is an error.
