On the day of Badr, my brother Umayr was killed, and I killed Saeed bin al-As and took his sword, which was called Dhu al-Katifa. I brought it to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Go and throw it into the collected spoils."So I returned, carrying within me a grief that none but Allah knew, over the killing of my brother and the seizure of my spoils. I had gone only a short distance when Surah al-Anfal was revealed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Go and take your sword."

Its chain of transmission is daif because it is disconnected. Abu Ishaq Shaybani is Sulayman bin Abu Sulayman, and he is trustworthy and authoritative. Muhammad bin Ubaydullah Thaqafi, Abu Awn, is trustworthy, as we said at 1077, but he did not meet Saad, for he came later, dying in the year 116. In the Marasil of Ibn Abu Hatim, 67, Abu Zura said, "Muhammad bin Ubaydullah Thaqafi's report from Saad is a mursal narration." This is also found in Tahdhib, 9:322, though there it is written as "from Saeed," which is a clear printing error. The hadith appears in the tafsir of Ibn Kathir, 4:4, and also in Durr Manthur, 3:158, where it is attributed to Ibn Abu Shayba, Ahmad, Ibn Jareer, and Ibn Mardawayh. Its meaning has already been given with a sahih chain at 1538. See also 1567.Dhul-Kutayfa, with the ka fatha, kutayf meaning a flat, that is, broad, sword. Al-qabd, with the qaf and ba fatha, meaning what is taken, that is, what is gathered from the spoils before it is divided, as Ibn Athir said.
