He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say during his march to Khaybar to Amir bin al-Akwa, who was the uncle of Salama bin Amr bin al-Akwa, and the name of al-Akwa was Sinan, "Come down, Ibn al-Akwa, and recite for us some of your verses."So he came down and began chanting rajaz verses for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying, "By Allah, were it not for Allah we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor would we have prayed. We are a people against whom others have transgressed, and if they seek to lead us into trial, we refuse. So send down tranquility upon us and make our feet firm if we meet the enemy."
حدثنا يعقوب حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحاق قال حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن الحارث التيمي
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول في مسيره إلى خيبر لعامر بن الأكوع وهو عم سلمة بن عمرو بن الأكوع وكان اسم الأكوع سنانا انزل يا ابن الأكوع فاحد لنا من هنياتك قال فنزل يرتجز لرسول الله ﷺ فقال والله لولا الله ما اهتدينا ولا تصدقنا ولا صلينا إنا إذا قوم بغوا علينا وإن أرادوا فتنة أبينا فأنزلن سكينة علينا وثبت الأقدام إن لاقينا
