Maaz bin Khalid bin Malik, a man from among us, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and confessed to having committed fornication. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to stone him, so we went out to the lava field of Banu Nayyar and stoned him. When he felt the impact of the stones, he became extremely distressed. After we were done with him and returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we mentioned his distress to him.He said, "Why did you not let him go?"
حدثنا يعقوب حدثنا أبي عن ابن إسحاق قال حدثني محمد بن إبراهيم بن الحارث التيمي
أتى ماعز بن خالد بن مالك رجل منا رسول الله ﷺ فاستودى على نفسه بالزنا فأمرنا رسول الله ﷺ برجمه فخرجنا إلى حرة بني نيار فرجمناه فلما وجد مس الحجارة جزع جزعا شديدا فلما فرغنا منه ورجعنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ ذكرنا له جزعه فقال هلا تركتموه
