Its chain of transmission is hasan, because of Ubaydullah bin Zahr, the Egyptian from Ifriqiya. A group of scholars deemed him daif, but Ahmad deemed him trustworthy, as reported from him by Abu Dawud, and Nasai approved of him, and Abu Zura said, "There is no harm in him, he is truthful." As for Yahya bin Ayub Ghafiqi the Egyptian, scholars have deemed him trustworthy, and his hadith is accepted by the group of major hadith compilers. As for Bakr bin Sawada Judhami the Egyptian, he is a trustworthy jurist.The hadith is found in Abu Dawud, 3/328, number 3685, in the Book of Drinks, on the prohibition of intoxicants.Regarding his saying "al-kubah," this refers to the tambourine, or the drum, or the barbat, as stated in Nihayah. The barbat is the Persian lute by which it is known. As for "an-nard," it is the game of backgammon in our language. As for his saying "al-qinnin," it means gambling in the Byzantine tongue, and it is also said to mean the tanbur in the Abyssinian tongue, and perhaps it refers to the musical instrument known as the qanun.As for his saying "al-ghubayra," the hadith calls it "a third of the wine of the world." It is a wine made from corn, resembling the Egyptian buza of old.
