I sat with Shayba bin Uthman in this mosque, and he said, "Umar bin Khattab once sat with me where you are sitting now and said, 'I have a mind to leave nothing in this Kaaba, neither yellow nor white, without dividing it among the Muslims.'I said, 'You will not do it.'He asked, 'Why not?'I replied, 'Because your two companions did not do it.'He said, 'Those are the two men whose example is to be followed.'"

جلست إلى شيبة بن عثمان في هذا المسجد فقال جلس إلي عمر بن الخطاب مجلسك هذا فقال لقد هممت أن لا أدع فيها صفراء ولا بيضاء إلا قسمتها بين المسلمين قال قلت ما أنت بفاعل قال لم قلت لم يفعله صاحباك قال هما المرءان يقتدى بهما
