He said, "Messenger of Allah, Allah has given me satisfaction against the polytheists, so grant me this sword."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "This sword is neither yours nor mine. Put it down."So I put it down and walked away, thinking, "Today this sword may well be given to someone who did not endure what I endured."Then suddenly a man was calling me from behind. I said, "Something has been revealed concerning me."The Prophet ﷺ said, "You asked me for the sword, and it was not mine to give. Now it has been granted to me, so it is yours."And this verse was revealed, "They ask you about the spoils. Say, the spoils belong to Allah and the Messenger" [Anfal 8:1].
حدثنا أسود بن عامر أنبأنا أبو بكر عن عاصم بن أبي النجود عن مصعب بن سعد
قال يا رسول الله قد شفاني الله من المشركين فهب لي هذا السيف قال إن هذا السيف ليس لك ولا لي ضعه قال فوضعته ثم رجعت قلت عسى أن يعطى هذا السيف اليوم من لم يبل بلائي قال إذا رجل يدعوني من ورائي قال قلت قد أنزل في شيء قال كنت سألتني السيف وليس هو لي وإنه قد وهب لي فهو لك قال وأنزلت هذه الآية {يسألونك عن الأنفال قل الأنفال لله والرسول}
