I went out with ten young men in the company of the Prophet ﷺ, and he was the most hated of people to us. They gave the call to prayer, so we stood up and began calling it out, mocking them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring me those young men."Then he said, "Give the call to prayer."So they gave the call, and I was one of them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, this is the one whose voice I heard. Go and give the call to prayer for the people of Makkah."He then wiped his hand over my forelock and said, "Say, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, twice. I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice. Then return and bear witness that there is no god but Allah, twice, and bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, twice. Come to prayer, come to prayer. Come to success, come to success, twice. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. And when you give the first call for the dawn prayer, say, Prayer is better than sleep, prayer is better than sleep. And when you call the iqamah, say it twice, The prayer has begun, the prayer has begun. Did you hear?"The narrator said, Abu Mahzura would not cut his forelock nor part it, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had wiped his hand over it.
