Jabir reported, "We were working with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the trench. I had a small, plump young goat, and I said to myself, 'By Allah, it would be wonderful to prepare it for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So I instructed my wife to grind some barley and bake bread from it, and I slaughtered that goat and we roasted it for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.When evening came and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was about to leave the trench, since we used to work there during the day and return to our families in the evening, I said, 'Messenger of Allah, I have prepared a small goat we had, along with some bread made from this barley. I would love for you to come with me to my house.' I only intended for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to come with me alone. When I said this to him, he replied, 'Yes.' Then he ordered an announcer to call out, 'Go with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to the house of Jabir!'I said, 'We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return!'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came forward, and the people came along with him. He sat down, and we brought the food out to him. He said the name of Allah and ate, and the people took turns. Whenever one group finished, they got up and another group came, until all the workers of the trench had eaten from it."
