There was a man from the tribe of Banu Udhrah named Abu Madhkur who had a Coptic slave whom he freed contingent upon his own death. The man was in need, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you is in need, let him begin with himself."He then instructed him to make use of the slave for his own benefit, so he sold him to Naeem bin Abdullah al-Nahham al-Adawi for eight hundred dirhams.

كان رجل من بني عذرة يقال له أبو مذكور وكان له عبد قبطي فأعتقه عن دبر منه وكان ذا حاجة قال رسول الله ﷺ إذا كان أحدكم ذا حاجة فليبدأ بنفسه قال فأمره أن يستنفع به فباعه من نعيم بن عبد الله النحام العدوي بثمان مائة درهم

Its isnad is sahih. Abdullah bin Abu Najeeh is trustworthy, and his hadith is found among the group (of Bukhari, Muslim, and the other main compilers). The hadith has already appeared at 14912.
