A boy was born to one of the Ansar, and he named him Qasim. The Ansar said, "By Allah, we will not address you by the kunya Abu al-Qasim ever." This reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he praised the Ansar, then said, "Take my name, but do not take my kunya."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن منصور عن سالم بن أبي الجعد
ولد لرجل من الأنصار غلام فسماه القاسم فقالت الأنصار والله لا نكنيك به أبدا فبلغ ذلك رسول الله ﷺ فأثنى على الأنصار خيرا ثم قال تسموا باسمي ولا تكنوا بكنيتي
