We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as pilgrims, intending only Hajj and nothing else. When we reached Sarif, Ayesha began menstruating. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to find her weeping. He asked, "What is making you cry?"She replied, "Messenger of Allah, my menses have come."He said, "This is something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam. What affects them affects you."We arrived at the Kaabah on the fourth day of Dhul-Hijjah, whether by days or nights, and we performed tawaf around the House and saee between Safa and Marwa. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us, and we came out of ihram completely. We discussed it among ourselves, saying, "We came out as pilgrims intending only Hajj and nothing else, yet when there were only four days or nights between us and Arafat, we are setting out for Arafat with seminal fluid still dripping from us after being with our wives."This reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he stood up and addressed us, saying, "Be aware that umrah has been included within Hajj. Had I known earlier what I now know, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal with me, and were it not for the hadi I would have come out of ihram. Whoever does not have a hadi animal with him, let him come out of ihram."Suraqa bin Malik bin Jusham stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, inform us as though we were a people just born today. Is this ruling only for this year of ours, or is it forever?"He answered, "No, rather it is forever."We went to Arafat and then departed from there. Then Ayesha said, "Messenger of Allah, I feel uneasy that the others have performed umrah while I have not."He replied, "You will have a reward equal to theirs."She said, "Messenger of Allah, I still feel uneasy."So he stopped at the upper part of the valley of Makkah and ordered her brother Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Bakr to take her on his mount behind him until they reached Tanim. Then she came back.
