I said, "Messenger of Allah, when a man is the staunch defender of his people, should his share be equal to the share of others?"He replied, "May your mother be bereaved of you, son of Umm Saad. Are you granted provision and victory by anything other than your weak ones?"

Its isnad is daif because of the discontinuity in it. Makhul is al-Shami al-Dimashqi, and he is trustworthy, but he did not hear from any of the companions except in some disputed cases involving a few of the younger ones among them, and as for Saad, he did not hear from him. See Maraseel by Ibn Abu Hatim, 77.The hadith itself is sahih. Bukhari narrated something similar to it in brief form, 61:75, from the report of Musab bin Saad, who said, Saad thought that he had some merit over those beneath him, so the Prophet ﷺ said, "Are you given victory and provided for except through your weak ones?" Hafiz pointed out in Fath al-Bari that Nasai also narrated it, and he pointed out that the report of Makhul given here was narrated by Abdul-Razzaq.
