The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and Qutayba's version states, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The game of the land is lawful for you,'" Saeed added, "while you are in a state of ihram, as long as you did not hunt it yourselves nor have it hunted on your behalf."
Its isnad is hasan, like the one before it. The hadith is found in Muslim, 2/853, no. 1914m, in the book of Hajj, on the prohibition of hunting for one in the state of ihram, and in Abu Dawud, 2/171, no. 1851, with similar wording, and in Tirmidhi, 3/195, no. 846, though he said, "We do not know of Muttalib having heard from Jabir." However, Hakim, 1/476, said it is sahih according to the criteria of both Bukhari and Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith is also found in Nasai, 5/178, no. 2827, in Malik, 1/354, no. 84, and in Darimi, 2/60, no. 1827.
