I heard a man say to Jabir bin Abdullah, "Who remains with you from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He replied, "Anas bin Malik and Salama bin Akwa remain."The man said, "As for Salama, he has reverted from his migration."Jabir said, "Do not say that, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to the tribe of Aslam, 'Go out to the desert, Aslam.'They said, 'Messenger of Allah, we fear that we will be reverting after our migration.'He replied, 'You are migrants wherever you are.'"

Its isnad is hasan, at least. Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Husayn was deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban (5/150), while others remained silent about him, as noted in Jarh (6/265) and Tarikh al-Kabir (6/172). The same applies to Amr bin Abdul-Rahman bin Jarhad, or Amr, as given in Taajil, though it states there, "gharib." Haythami said (5/253), "I do not know him," while it is stated in Fath al-Bari, "hasan." It is indeed hasan, since none of its narrators have been criticized. Beyond that, the hadith has a corroborating witness in Sahih Bukhari (13/40, no. 7087, Fath al-Bari numbering), that Salama bin Akwa came to Hajjaj, who said to him, "O son of Akwa, have you turned back on your heels? Have you become a bedouin?" He said, "No, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me permission to live in the desert."
