One of the commanders of the civil strife came to Medina at a time when Jabir had already lost his eyesight. Someone said to Jabir, "It would be better if you kept away from him."So he went out walking between his two sons, and he stumbled. He said, "May he be ruined, the one who has frightened the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."One of his sons asked, "Father, how could he frighten the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he has already died?"He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever frightens the people of Medina has frightened what is between my sides.'"
حدثنا علي بن عياش حدثنا محمد بن مطرف عن زيد بن أسلم
أن أميرا من أمراء الفتنة قدم المدينة وكان قد ذهب بصر جابر فقيل لجابر لو تنحيت عنه فخرج يمشي بين ابنيه فنكب فقال تعس من أخاف رسول الله ﷺ فقال ابناه أو أحدهما يا أبت وكيف أخاف رسول الله ﷺ وقد مات قال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من أخاف أهل المدينة فقد أخاف ما بين جنبي
