Saad bin Muaz was struck by an arrow on the Day of the Confederates, and they severed his median vein. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cauterized it with fire, but his hand swelled up. He cauterized it again, and again his hand swelled. He cauterized it a third time, and once more his hand swelled, then it began to bleed. When Saad saw this, he said, "Allah, do not let my soul depart until You comfort my eyes regarding Banu Qurayzah." The bleeding then stopped, and not a drop fell until they surrendered to the judgment of Saad. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for him, and Saad ruled that their men be killed and their women and children be spared so that the Muslims might benefit from them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have rendered the very judgment of Allah concerning them." They numbered four hundred. When the killing was completed, Saad's wound burst open and he died.
