I returned from a journey, and Jabir bin Abdullah came to greet me. I began telling him about how the people had split apart and the innovations they had introduced. Jabir started weeping, then said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'People entered the religion of Allah in throngs, and they will leave it in throngs.'"
حدثنا معاوية بن عمرو حدثنا أبو إسحاق عن الأوزاعي حدثني أبو عمار حدثني جار
قدمت من سفر فجاءني جابر بن عبد الله يسلم علي فجعلت أحدثه عن افتراق الناس وما أحدثوا فجعل جابر يبكي ثم قال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن الناس دخلوا في دين الله أفواجا وسيخرجون منه أفواجا

Its chain of transmission is daif, due to the unknown identity of the narrator from Jabir. Haythami also graded the hadith as daif (7/28), but Hakim graded it sahih with a similar wording (4/496), and Dhahabi agreed with him. It is also found in Darimi (1/54, no. 90).
