The Prophet ﷺ said, "The hand is cut off for the price of a shield."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي عن وهيب عن أبي واقد الليثي
أن النبي ﷺ قال تقطع اليد في ثمن المجن
Its isnad is daif. Abu Waqid Laythi is the younger one, whose name was Salih bin Muhammad bin Zaidah. He was from Madinah and daif in hadith. Ibn Main and Ibn Madini both declared him daif. Bukhari said in al-Saghir 175, "Sulayman bin Harb abandoned him, his hadith is munkar," and he said the same in al-Duafa 18. This was discussed earlier as well, at 144.Al-mijann, with a kasrah on the meem, a fathah on the jeem, and a doubled noon, means the shield, because it conceals and covers the one carrying it.
