We entered upon Jabir bin Abdullah while he was praying in a single garment wrapped around himself, with his cloak near enough that he could have reached it had he wanted. When he finished the prayer, we asked him about this, and he said, "I only do this so that fools like you may see me and spread the news of a concession that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted."Then Jabir said, "I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys. I came to him one night while he was praying in a single garment, and I had only one garment on me, so I wrapped myself in it and stood beside him."He said, "Jabir, what is this wrapping? When you pray and have only one garment, if it is wide, wrap yourself in it, and if it is narrow, tie it around your waist."
حدثنا أبو عامر حدثنا فليح حدثنا
دخلنا على جابر بن عبد الله وهو يصلي في ثوب واحد ملتحفا به ورداؤه قريب لو تناوله بلغه فلما سلم سألناه عن ذلك فقال إنما أفعل هذا ليراني الحمقى أمثالكم فيفشوا على جابر رخصة رخصها رسول الله ﷺ ثم قال جابر خرجت مع رسول الله ﷺ في بعض أسفاره فجئته ليلة وهو يصلي في ثوب واحد وعلي ثوب واحد فاشتملت به ثم قمت إلى جنبه قال يا جابر ما هذا الاشتمال إذا صليت وعليك ثوب واحد فإن كان واسعا فالتحف به وإن كان ضيقا فاتزر به
