Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

While in Mecca, he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared in the year of the Conquest, "Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, carrion, swine, and idols."He was then asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about the fat of carrion, since it is used to coat ships, grease leather, and people use it to fuel their lamps?"He replied, "No, it is forbidden."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ added, "May Allah destroy the Jews. When Allah forbade them the fat, they melted it down, sold it, and consumed its price."

حدثنا حجاج حدثنا ليث حدثني يزيد بن أبي حبيب أنه قال قال عطاء بن أبي رباح سمعت

جابر بن عبد الله

وهو بمكة وهو يقول إن رسول الله ﷺ قال عام الفتح إن الله عز وجل ورسوله حرم بيع الخمر والميتة والخنزير والأصنام فقيل له عند ذلك يا رسول الله أرأيت شحوم الميتة فإنه يدهن بها السفن ويدهن بها الجلود ويستصبح بها الناس قال لا هو حرام ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ عند ذلك قاتل الله اليهود إن الله عز وجل لما حرم عليها الشحوم جملوها ثم باعوها وأكلوا أثمانها
