The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People of the Ansar, hold on to your properties and do not give them away as lifetime grants, for whoever grants something to another for his lifetime, it belongs to him in his life and after his death."
حدثنا إسماعيل عن الحجاج الصواف عن أبي الزبير إن شاء الله
قال رسول الله ﷺ يا معشر الأنصار أمسكوا عليكم أموالكم ولا تعمروها فإنه من أعمر شيئا حياته فهو له حياته وموته
Its isnad is sahih. Hajjaj al-Sawwaf is Ibn Abu Uthman Maysara or Salim, Abu al-Salt al-Kindi, the trustworthy and precise memorizer. The hadith was reported by Nasai, 6/274, no. 3737, in the chapter on umra, mentioning the differences in the wordings of the transmitters of Jabir's hadith, and by Ibn Abu Shayba, 7/142, no. 2672, in the chapter on sales, on umra, and by Hakim, 2/334, who graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
