When this verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die. Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord, will dispute" [Zumar 39:30–31], Zubayr asked, "Messenger of Allah, will the disputes that took place between us in this world, along with our private sins, be brought up against us again?"He replied, "Yes, they will indeed be brought up against you until every person with a right is given his due."Zubayr said, "By Allah, the matter is truly severe."
حدثنا ابن نمير حدثنا محمد يعني ابن عمرو عن يحيى بن عبد الرحمن بن حاطب عن عبد الله بن الزبير
لما نزلت هذه السورة على رسول الله ﷺ {إنك ميت وإنهم ميتون ثم إنكم يوم القيامة عند ربكم تختصمون} قال الزبير أي رسول الله ﷺ أيكرر علينا ما كان بيننا في الدنيا مع خواص الذنوب قال نعم ليكررن عليكم حتى يؤدى إلى كل ذي حق حقه فقال الزبير والله إن الأمر لشديد
