We were with Abu Ubayda. The Prophet ﷺ had sent us out with him on an expedition. Our provisions ran out, and we passed by a fish that the sea had cast onto the shore. We wanted to eat from it, but Abu Ubayda forbade us. Then he later said, "We are envoys of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and traveling in the path of Allah. Eat."So we ate from it for several days. When we returned, we mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "If any of it is still left with you, send some of it to us."
حدثنا هشيم أخبرنا أبو الزبير
كنا مع أبي عبيدة بعثنا النبي ﷺ معه في سفر فنفد زادنا فمررنا بحوت قذفه البحر فأردنا أن نأكل منه فمنعنا أبو عبيدة ثم إنه قال بعد ذلك نحن رسل رسول الله ﷺ وفي سبيل الله كلوا قال فأكلنا منه أياما فلما قدمنا ذكرنا ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فقال إن كان بقي معكم منه شيء فابعثوا به إلينا
