We arrived with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when four days of Dhul-Hijjah had passed, and we had entered the sacred state for Hajj. He then ordered us to make it a lesser pilgrimage instead. This troubled our hearts and weighed heavily upon us, and word of it reached him, so he said, "People, release yourselves from the sacred state. Were it not for the sacrificial animal I have with me, I would do just as you are doing."So we did, and we went to our wives, doing what a man free of the sacred state may do, until on the eve of the Day of Tarwiyah, or on the Day of Tarwiyah itself, we put Makkah behind us and raised our voices declaring our intention for Hajj.The narrator also said, "When the Day of Tarwiyah came and we had put Makkah behind us, we raised our voices declaring our intention for Hajj."
