The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to walk in front of him when he went out, leaving his back for the angels.
حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن الأسود بن قيس عن نبيح
كان أصحاب النبي ﷺ يمشون أمامه إذا خرج ويدعون ظهره للملائكة
Its chain of transmission is sahih, and it is found in Ibn Majah 1/90, no. 246, in the Introduction, chapter on one who disliked being followed on foot behind him. He said in Zawaid, "Its narrators are trustworthy."
