When my father was killed, I began to uncover the cloth from his face. The people kept trying to stop me, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not stop me.My aunt Fatimah bint Amr began to weep, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whether you weep or do not weep, the angels continued to shade him with their wings until you lifted him up."Hajjaj said in his version, "shading him."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر وحجاج قالا حدثنا شعبة قال سمعت محمد بن المنكدر قال سمعت
لما قتل أبي قال جعلت أكشف الثوب عن وجهه قال فجعل القوم ينهوني ورسول الله ﷺ لا ينهاني قال فجعلت عمتي فاطمة بنت عمرو تبكي فقال رسول الله ﷺ أتبكين أو لا تبكين ما زالت الملائكة تظله بأجنحتهم حتى رفعتموه قال حجاج في حديثه تظلله
Its isnad is sahih. It is found in Bukhari 2/91, Shab edition, in the Book of Funerals, chapter on entering upon the deceased after death, and in Muslim 4/1918, number 2471, in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions, chapter on the virtues of Abdullah bin Amr bin Haram.
