When the Kaabah was being rebuilt, the Prophet ﷺ and Abbas were carrying stones. Abbas said, "Place your lower garment over your shoulder to protect it from the stones."He did so, but then fell to the ground with his eyes gazing up toward the sky. He then rose and said, "My garment, my garment," and tightened his garment around himself.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا ابن جريج أخبرني عمرو بن دينار أنه سمع
لما بنيت الكعبة ذهب النبي ﷺ وعباس ينقلان حجارة فقال عباس اجعل إزارك على رقبتك من الحجارة ففعل فخر إلى الأرض وطمحت عيناه إلى السماء ثم قام فقال إزاري إزاري فشد عليه إزاره
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari narrated something similar in the chapters on Virtues, the building of the Kaaba, 7/45, no. 3829, Fath. Muslim narrated it in 1/267, no. 340, in the chapter on Menstruation, taking care to cover one's private parts. Abdul-Razzaq narrated it, no. 1103, in the chapter on ghusl, a man covering himself when he performs ghusl. Bayhaqi narrated it in 2/227 and attributed it to the two shaykhs.
