A man came and asked the Prophet ﷺ for something, so he gave him a flock of sheep filling the space between two mountains. The man returned to his people and said, "My people, embrace Islam! By Allah, Muhammad gives so generously that he gives like one who has no fear of poverty."Indeed, a man would come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanting nothing but worldly gain, yet by evening his religion would be more beloved and dearer to him than the world and everything in it.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا حماد حدثنا ثابت
أن رجلا سأل النبي ﷺ فأعطاه غنما بين جبلين فأتى قومه فقال أي قوم أسلموا فوالله إن محمدا ليعطي عطاء من لا يخاف الفاقة وإن كان الرجل ليجيء إلى رسول الله ﷺ ما يريد إلا الدنيا فما يمسي حتى يكون دينه أحب إليه أو أعز عليه من الدنيا بما فيها
